So amidst the struggle of trying to find a fun, awesome program to do...I struck gold!! I ended finding an idea for Memory Jars somewhere on the world wide web (its a helpful tool as an RA...USE IT!) Memory Jars are basically a fun craft that gets your residents together to decorate mason jars.
I made a sign-up sheet to know how many residents I would have attend, and also therefore know how many jars to buy. That being said, I found some extra jars in our craft room and did not need to go out and buy any! Score. I had 20 girls sign up for this event!---that is an awesome number and I could not have been more stoked. Only a few had to drop out last minute... one or two forgot. The program was a hit and everyone really seemed to enjoy themselves. They also got to meet other residents they never even knew lived on their floor. Double score.
Supplies for this are as many or as little as you have at your disposal. At my residence hall, we have a whole room of craft necessities for anything you could imagine. The main supplies I knew I wanted are listed below:
-Mod Podge (any type of clear dry glue)
-glitter
-paper
-assortment of paints
-yarn/twine
-tissue paper
-paint brushes
-hot glue
And honestly, anything else I found was bonus!
My resident's all did something different and awesome with their jar...and I hope that they will use it to collect memories! Time will tell. I attached a picture of all the finished jars...not too shabby.
